As Star Wars Land construction continues, reports have been reported as to what is going on. It has been confirmed that the construction is suppose to be completed by mid-late 2019. There are expected to two large "show" buildings to be constructed each holding an attraction that has the capacity of 1500-1900 guests per hour.
The Land itself is going to total 14 acres and involved components from both the original and new movies. The Land is set to be "an entirely new planet on the outer rim, a frontier town" and will involved 3 dining experiences.
With D23 starting this evening, there are pictures already circulating about the Star Wars Land model that was built for D23 Expo 2017. Here are a few of the pictures from the D23 website:
This just in from D23 Expo and Disney Park Blog...The new name for the Star Wars-inspired land will official be called Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge and plans to open in 2019. The announce was made by Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, and he also talked about the immersive experience guest would enjoy when visiting Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.
The idea is that guest will trading post on the "Galaxy's Edge" of space where Star Wars characters come to life and the guests find themselves in the middle of the action. According to Disney Park Blog, "The lands will feature two major attractions that put guests in the middle of a battle between the First Order and the Resistance. Each attraction – and even the land itself – will offer guests the chance to immerse themselves in the Star Wars universe like never before."
One attraction will put you on a Star Destroyer in the hangar bay and the attraction will be built "on a scale we've never done before," according to Bob Chapek.
The another attraction will allow guest the chance to fly the Millenium Falcon including piloting the ship, shooting blasters and/or preparing for hyperspace. But the ride doesn't stop there. How you perform on mission affects the overall outcome. If you do will on your mission (and tasks), you will "earn extra galactic credits". But if you do poorly and bring the ship back banged up, you could go on the bounty hunter list and face problems if and when you show up at the cantina.
Guests will also be able to visit with some of their favorite characters from the Star Wars series.
Previously, I showed you pictures from the model that was built for D23 Expo, but here is a "fly-over" of the model courtesy of Disney Park Blog...
I found an article on Blog Mickey talking about Star Wars Land trading cards.
Guests who attended Star Wars Galactic Nights have been able to collect trading cards for the new land that, when pieced together, provide a map and some backstories for the Hollywood Studios expansion.
In addition to a map of the land, Aurebesh around the perimeter of the map has been translated to the following:
“At the edge of the galaxy so far away, black was the spire that called me to stay, a beacon for drifters forgotten and lost, the spire summoned those broken and tossed, come stay here forever or just pass on through, the spirit of the black spire will forever change you”
Some of the landmarks described in the map are: - Savi’s Path
- Ancient Ruins – Remains of an ancient settlement. Perfect hideout for the Resistence - Spaceport – Hando’s base of operations. He’s always in need of a crew - Black Spire Station – Salju will help you find the part that you need (likely a gift shop) - Docking Bay 7: Food and Cargo – Food freighters come and go with tasty fare - Smuggler’s Ally/Cantina – Local watering hole. Try the Blurrgfire - Docking Bay 9 – Stay clear! First Order Troopers spotted… - Saka Homestead – Find Blue Milk at Bantha Tracks in the marketplace - Merchant Row - Possibly another gift shop
Just a quick reminder ---- Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in late-Fall 2019.
Blog Mickey reported over the weekend that Imagineers and LucasFilm members hosted a special panel tonight at the Star Wars Galactic Nights event called Inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. During the panel, a few tidbits were given to attendees about the upcoming 14-acre land coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. We’re going to break down a few of those details below.
The panelists were: Scott Trowbridge – As Portfolio Creative Executive at Walt Disney Imagineering, Scott oversees the strategic concept development and integration of the Star Wars franchise across all lines of business—including merchandise, food & beverage, marketing and operations.
Eric Baker – As Creative Director at Walt Disney Imagineering, Eric is responsible for developing stories and ideas for Disney theme parks and other Disney venues, as well as bringing these stories to life—from props to creatures. Some of his past projects include Tortuga Tavern, the extended Haunted Mansion queue and Star Tours – The Adventures Continue. Margaret Kerrison – As Managing Story Editor at Walt Disney Imagineering, Margaret is responsible for the overall story direction in the Star Wars portfolio in which she guides and manages Star Wars-related story initiatives throughout all Disney lands, resorts and attractions. Margaret’s works also includes Hyperspace Mountain in Disneyland Park and Grand Avenue at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Jon Georges – As an Executive Producer at Walt Disney Imagineering with over 30 years of experience, Jon has produced many projects around the world in addition to his current work on Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge—including the recent updates to Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom park.
Back in November of last year, Disney announced the name of the planet we’ll be visiting when we pass through the tunnel from Grand Avenue and enter Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Much like Pandora – The World of Avatar, there are two names guests will have to keep in mind when trying to pinpoint where they’re at within the galaxy far, far away. The planet the guests are traveling to is named Batuu and the specific village that everyone be walking through is named Black Spire Outpost. The village got its name from the large, black spire located in the middle of the village. As the story goes, smugglers and travelers would use the black spire (seen below) as a wayfinding location for meetups. Here’s the official description from Disney:
"Black Spire Outpost is the name of the village inside of the upcoming Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at both Disneyland Resort in California and Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. The village is closely associated with the geological formations that surround it. As the largest settlement on the planet Batuu, Black Spire Outpost is an infamous stop for traders, adventurers, and smugglers traveling around the Outer Rim and Wild Space. Off the beaten path, this outpost has become a haven for the galaxy’s most colorful — and notorious — characters. Widely known for the petrified remains of its once towering ancient trees, the spires now stand guard across the river valleys and plains and have long captured the imagination of travelers to this planet. To the first settlers, these petrified spires became more than just landmarks; they became the heart of the outpost itself."
Panelists continued with a few new details, including that the guests will be boarding a second ship within the land. The new ship is called a Resistance Troop Transport and is full-size and guests will be able to walk into the ship.
Beyond those details, panelists talked about how extensive the work is that they’re doing to bring an authentic location to life. They talked about a character, Nien Nunb, who will play a big part in our Galaxy’s Edge adventure. In order to make the experience authentic, Imagineers traveled to Kenya to find the original voice-actor and have him record dialog.
Speaking of the movies, Imagineers and LucasFilm team members are working extensively with the teams working on the Star Wars films. Over 5,000 people are working on Galaxy’s Edge worldwide, including individuals at the famous Pinewood Studios in the United Kingdom. Imagineers are working with the same prop developers that are working on the movies, including capturing content in tandem with the studio to create an authentic experience.
Last week at Distination D, Disney released the name of the two rides that you will find in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. The ride involving the Millennium Falcon will be called Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and will feature Hondo Ohnaka and Chewbacca. The other ride will be called Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance; where guests can join an epic battle between the First Order and the Resistance – including a face-off with Kylo Ren himself!
Disney also released two short videos about each ride:
It was announced last month that Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will have a minimum height requirement when Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge opens due to the ride ending with a "swift drop."
The ride’s warning sign which will be located outside of the entrance will read:
"Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
Join us on an exhilarating mission to stop The First Order! This mission includes rapid motion, sudden stops, sharp turns, and a swift drop as you evade capture from The First Order."
Despite being in a trackless ride vehicle, guests will experience a drop towards the end of the attraction. The drop will reportedly simulate an escape pod blasting off, taking guests in their transports swiftly back down to the planet Batuu. We’re not talking about a drop the height of the Tower of Terror here, but at least most of the height of the fairly large show building that houses this ride.
The sign goes on to indicate the minimum height requirement for Rise of the Resistance: 40 inches. For the record, other trackless Disney attractions such as Mystic Manor and Ratatouille do not have this restriction as they do not feature such drops.

Information about the food at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge from D23:
Oga’s Cantina
If you’re like C-3PO, who thinks “space travel sounds rather perilous”—or if you simply want to unwind after a daring day of wandering through Black Spire Outpost—look no further than Oga’s Cantina, where even the blaster-bolt scorches on the walls tell a story. Run by an intriguing alien proprietor, Oga Garra, this watering hole invites guests to share their tales from around the galaxy as they enjoy exotic beverages served in unique vessels. Potations with alcohol include Bespin Fizz, Bloody Rancor, Dagobah Slug Slinger, Fuzzy Tauntaun, Jedi Mind Trick, Jet Juice, The Outer Rim, Spriran Caf, T-16 Skyhopper, and Yub Nub; non-alcoholic libations include Black Spire Brew, Blue Bantha, Carbon Freeze, Cliff Dweller, Hyperdrive Punch It!, Jabba Juice, Moogan Tea, and Tarine Tea; and provisions include a Cantina mix. Keep your spaceships parked, as all beverages in Oga’s Cantina will be the same on both coasts.
You’ll find Oga lurking in the shadows, and locals know better than to dare cross the proprietor. DJ R-3X—formerly known as Captain Rex, the Starspeeder 3000 pilot droid from Star Tours—now calls Oga’s Cantina his home, where he’s in charge of providing the musical entertainment.
These non-alcoholic drinks (Carbon Freeze on the left, Cantina Mix in the middle and Cliff Dweller on the right) can be found at Oga's Cantina

Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo
Feeling hungrier than a Leviathan? Head over to Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo, a multi-purpose transport shuttle docked atop a large hangar for traveling food shuttles. That’s where Chef Strono “Cookie” Tuggs has converted his modified Sienar-Chall Utilipede-Transport into a popular mobile kitchen and restaurant. His travels across the galaxy allow him to fill his pantry with exotic ingredients, and he’s proud to present Tuggs’ Grub, a “traveling diner for diners traveling,” inspired by dishes he created during his time working for Maz Kanata on Takodana.
Non-alcoholic beverages include the Phattro and Moof Juice, while entrées include the Braised Shaak Roast, featuring beef pot roast with cavatelli pasta, kale, and mushrooms; the Fried Endorian Tip-Yip, a decadent chicken dish with roasted vegetable mash and herb gravy; the Felucian Garden Spread, a plant-based kefta “meatball” dish with herb hummus and tomato-cucumber relish with pita bread; the Ithorian Garden Loaf, a plant-based “meatloaf” dish served with roasted vegetable mash, seasonal vegetables, and mushroom sauce; the Smoked Kaadu Ribs, featuring smoked country sticky pork ribs with blueberry corn muffin and cabbage slaw; the Oven-roasted Burra Fish, featuring Dijon-crusted sustainable fish with mixed greens, roasted vegetables, quinoa, and pumpkin seeds with a creamy green curry ranch dressing; the Oven-roasted Tip Yip, featuring roasted chicken with mixed greens, roasted vegetables, quinoa, and pumpkin seeds with a creamy green curry ranch dressing; and the Yobshrimp Noodle Salad, a marinated noodle salad with chilled shrimp. Ronto Roasters
Meanwhile, Ronto Roasters’ large podracing engine will be firing up a barbecue pit for mouth-watering sandwiches. When customers line up to order, they will encounter a former smelter droid, carefully turning the spit of meats (and complaining about his job). Items include the Meiloorun Juice, the Turkey Jerky, and the Ronto Wrap filled with spiced grilled sausage and roasted pork. Guests will also be able to choose from a variety of exotic non-alcoholic drinks, like the Sour Sarlacc or Tatooine Sunset.
Milk Stand
Elsewhere in the bustling market, the Milk Stand will offer two local favorites: blue milk, first seen in Star Wars: A New Hope, and green milk, introduced in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Four years ago, the team visited Lucasfilm to get ideas for the ingredients, according to Michele Gendreau, food & beverage director, Disneyland Resort; Brian Koziol, food & beverage concept development director, Walt Disney World Resort; and Brian Piasecki, culinary director, Concept Development, Walt Disney World Resort. Lucasfilm’s response: “You get to write the story.” After brainstorming what a bantha might consume in order to produce blue milk, for example, they landed on a plant-based dairy drink, allowing more guests to enjoy it.

Disney Parks Blog announced today that if you are travelling to Black Spire Outpost and you feel a stronger connection with the Force, you are not alone. To find like-minded others, make your way to Savi’s Scrapyard. Those who have felt the call can seek out the hidden workshop and arrange an appointment to meet with the Gatherers – a group of men and women who have dedicated their lives to restoring balance in the galaxy by passing on their knowledge of the Force and the ancient ways of the Jedi. The Gatherers guide those who seek their assistance in creating their own unique customized lightsaber.
The Gatherers have amassed a great collection of stories, kyber crystals, and other saber parts from around the galaxy. As “keepers of the Force,” they have passed down their knowledge from generation to generation, striving to keep the flame of hope alive. Savi was one of the original Gatherers and a friend to Lor San Tekka (whom we met briefly at the beginning of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”). Like Lor, Savi was a believer in the ideals of the Jedi Order and helped to pass on his knowledge of Jedi lore. He created a salvage business as a front to hide his clandestine mission of guiding the next generation of Force wielders and helping them create their unique lightsabers.
Those ready to learn this knowledge will find a symbol displayed on the front of the workshop indicating that they are in the correct location and they must give the secret phrase to the Gatherers to enter inside. Once inside the workshop, the Builders will be surrounded by various odds and ends, pieces and objects. These pieces become key elements in the building and refinement of their lightsabers. At the center of the room is the Builder’s Table, a large oval-shaped table assembled from ancient pieces salvaged from across the galaxy that can accommodate up to 14 builders at a time to choose their crystal and craft their lightsaber.
There are four themes of lightsabers that guests can build:
Peace and Justice: Salvaged from fallen Jedi temples and crashed starships, these lightsaber pieces were created for Force wielders of the Republic era. The simple designs reflect the commitment to the devout life of those whom they were created by – the Jedi Order – the once guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy.
Power and Control: Reclaimed from the ashes of the rumored Sith homeworld and abandoned Sith temples, these lightsaber pieces were originally forged by the Sith of their time. Characterized by sharp and strong forms, these pieces showcase the brutality and relentlessness of the Sith’s insatiable desire for power and control.
Elemental Nature: As we have been told, The Force is an energy field created by all living things; it surrounds us, penetrates us and binds the galaxy together. These lightsaber pieces are born of that same Force. They are as unique as the user and as the elements of nature: the wood from a Brylark tree, a bone of the Cartusion whale or even a tooth from a Rancor.
Protection and Defense: Cultivated from a time forgotten, these earliest lightsaber pieces contain designs and inscriptions that are shrouded in mystery. Believed to be created for protection and defense, conferring anonymity and symbolizing emotional detachment, a lightsaber made from these pieces reconnects the user with the most ancient wellspring of the Force.
