One of our grandchildren's favorite restaurants is Ohana. They always vote for the breakfast service with the usual breakfast offerings including: eggs, roasted potatoes, sausage links, bacon and of course, Mickey Mouse waffles. And who would turn down a chance to dance with Stitch?? The adults pull for the dinner service that is served like a Brazilian Steak House. Veggies and bread are brought out in bowls, but meats, which include chicken, pork and steak, are brought around on huge skewers. You pick how much you want. For a little extra fun, add a drink that is served in a pineapple!
Dinner at 'Ohana was one of my favorite meals! They had me with the potstickers, noodles, veggies and wings! THEN they came around with the skewers of delicousness! Oh my!!! It was not just the quantity, which was abundant, but it was all cooked and seasoned perfectly!! Enjoyed the ukulele entertainment and the kids' coconut race, but the bread pudding put the meal over the top! Outstanding meal from start to finish!
When my daughter got married at Disney, our rehearsal dinner was there and the service was exceptional. I'm always impressed by Disneys accommodating allergies and diet restrictions.....I am allergic to garlic and onions so the chef created me my own special dinner including all the meats they bring out on the skewers, prepared with seasonings I could eat.....it was simply amazing! I want to go back again

Garlic and onions oh my......my two favorite ingredients.
Our first meal plan we were able to book Ohana's and we were staying at the Polynesian also, it was great, enjoyed everything that has been mentioned.
We have never been able to book it again, people have beat me to it each time.
my wife is Italian who doesn't like Italian food, I love Italian food and love to cook it, I have been told that I'm more Italian than most. LOL
My Nona taught me how to cook. I am the only one of my generation who knows the family recipes. My wife took it upon herself to document them. It was a frustrating humorous (in hindsight) event. I dont measure when I cook so every time I grabbed something she grabbed my hand, made me drop it, measured it, then let me add it. Most difficult time for me. In the end, our culinary history will move on to whom ever wants the recipes in the family

That is amazing and exactly how my wife wrote down her grandmothers recipes, she was known as Naunie and she measured in her hands also. my wife would take the amount and measure it and write it down also.
I say my wife doesn't like Italian food, she will eat her homemade pasta sauce and homemade pasta, just the sauce no broken up meat. Also peppers, onions and sausage sandwiches without the sausage, just likes the flavoring the sausage gives the peppers. I eat everything and love it.
Well, if anyone walks away from Ohana hungry, it's their own fault. We tried everything the first time around and then chose what we like best for the second, third, fourth......

I put sausage in my sauce but I let it come to room temp, remove casing and grind small. Because of the fine texture it release far more flavor (more surface area of the meat exposed). Also, you cannot tell there is meat in the sauce because I cook my sauce down. I also cook what I call pan sauce. Its a pomodoro sauce made with fresh herbs. Takes about 4 minutes in a skillet. Wifey really likes this because it tastes so fresh and I dont confiscate the kitchen all day. My daughters favorite is a garlic aioli (made it last night). This IMHO is the best fast food with the greatest flavor punch. Angel hair pasta cooked al dente. 1 clove of garlic per person per minced. 1/4-1/2 cup EVOO (italian herb infused is real good for this as well). Add garlic over medium heat and saute until the garlic is suntan brown. Pour over drained pasta, add a good romano cheese (CHEESE DOESNT COME IN A CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!).
Whole meal takes 10 minutes from prep to table
I just made sausage and peppers Monday this week. I have a typically Tuscan style. I also make risotto, gnocchi, and just about every pasta dish imaginable.

You beat me hands down, that sounds fantastic and delicious, you have a lucky family to have such a talented dad.
That is funny about cheese doesn't come from a can, my wife uses the term it doesn't come from cardboard. LOL
We purchase a block of Locatelli Romano and grate what we need and vacuum seal the rest. Now about cheese, do you eat sharp cheddar? We buy 3 year aged Cabot from Vermont, if you like sharp cheddar you will love this, so much better than the regular found in food stores. We can only get it in Vermont or Costco in our area of NY.

Cooking is easy for the most part. It just takes some time and a bit of organization on occasion.Im a cultural food hobby chef. I specialize in peasant dishes. I find it incredibly interesting to find out what the poor ate. Cultural cooking is so important. For the most part, family is strongest when you are around the table nightly. Food brings us together, it connects us on a nurturing level. I wish everyone would value the kitchen like latin cultures do.
I am a cheesaholic. I eat all kinds. The more they stink, the better they taste. I could give up meat, I couldnt give up cheese or dairy. One of my favorite snacks is a fine balsamic reduced to a syrupy consistency and drizzled over a fine Romano cheese. I also reduce infused balsamics and pour them over fine vanilla ice cream. OOOOH YEAAAAAHHHH
OKAY OKAY......We need to get back on subject of 'Ohana and get away from the Italian cooking. If you want to continue discussing Italian foods then either start a new thread about comparing homestyle Italian food to one of the Italian restaurants at WDW or take it privately away from the threads. Sorry for sounding rude and like a pain but we need to stay on subject.

sorry everybody, we got carried away. I will try a lot harder in the future to stay on subject. Thanks for keeping us on track.

You are so right! We tried everything and then focused on our favorites. Couldn't get enough of the pineapple-coconut bread and the bread pudding. 'Ohana is always on our to-do list. We never get tired of it. And the fresh pineapple with hot caramel sauce is heaven. Ahhhh...
