A new development from the Reedy Creek Improvement District, the city-state that acts as Walt Disney World’s governmental agency, reports that seven (7) firefighters and emergency medical technicians have been put under quarantine due to Coronavirus concerns.
According to WFTV’s Lauren Seabrook, the Reedy Creek Firefighters Union has stated that seven (7) firefighters and/or EMTs who work in and around Walt Disney World are currently under quarantine. Out of the seven, six have just returned from a conference in Tampa where another attendee has since tested positive. The seventh quarantined member of RCFD had just returned from a trip to Vietnam and South Korea.
To reiterate, none of these firefighters or EMTs have been confirmed as being infected with the Coronavirus, but have been quarantined as a precaution.
With the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic shutting down most events and theme parks throughout the country, Walt Disney World Resort has announced it will temporarily close after Sunday, March 15 out of an abundance of caution for their Cast Members and guests.
The closure is stated to last through the end of the month, but Walt Disney World officials have noted that they are monitoring the developments. Walt Disney World hotels are slated to remain open during this time, as is Disney Springs. Cast Members will continue to receive payment throughout the closure period.
This is the advisory currently posted on the Walt Disney World website. If calling in to cancel or modify your reservation, do be patient as phone lines are experiencing lengthy waits, and online portals are also glitchy from increased traffic.
This was the official statement released by Disney Parks and Resorts, and Disney Cruise Line regarding the closures.
The decision to close comes days after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis issued an executive order declaring a State of Emergency because of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Walt Disney World Resort is just the latest Disney resort to close over the pandemic. Shanghai Disney Resort was the first to close, but has recently opened up areas of the resort not including Shanghai Disneyland. Currently, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort and Tokyo Disney Resort remain closed. Disneyland Paris was also announced closed alongside the Walt Disney World closure announcement.
Guests with packages booked through the Walt Disney Travel Company may currently reschedule for a “future date in 2020” without having to pay the $50.00 change fee.

More information regarding the closure of the Walt Disney World Resort:
When does Walt Disney World close for Coronavirus (COVID-19)?
Disney will be closed starting the morning of March 16, 2020.
When will Walt Disney World reopen?
As of right now, all of the Disney verbiage indicates that Walt Disney World will reopen on April 1, 2020.
That said, the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation is quite fluid right now and Disney will continue to monitor the situation and be in contact with state and local officials.
This closure is unprecedented, but we can look to overseas Disney Theme Parks to see how they have handled closures. For example, Tokyo Disneyland has extended their announced two-week closure once already.
How do I cancel?
As you might expect, the phone lines will be very, very busy in the coming days. We have no doubt that Disney will make this right for you and your family, but patience will be required as they field many phone calls. Same thing goes for your Travel Agent. Disney has made some preliminary decisions, but more complicated or unique travel situations may require more time.
Walt Disney World has released additional details for Annual Passholders impacted by the resort-wide closure coming up on March 16. The following email was sent to all Annual Passholders:
As previously mentioned, all active Walt Disney World Annual Passes will be extended for the number of days the parks are closed. Currently, the parks are set to be closed through the end of March, or just over two weeks. Passes with renewal windows ending during the closure will also receive an extension of time to renew. For Passholders participating in the Annual Pass Monthly Payment program, all monthly payments will continue as scheduled. Once your payments are completed, your will still have the extra days provided.
Details regarding these new pass regulations will be reflected on the My Disney Experience website and app in the coming weeks, and pass blockout and admission calendars will not be updated during the closure.
If you’re heading to the parks this weekend to get your last bit of magic in, please clean your hands as often and thoroughly as possible, be it at the many new hand washing stations or by locating the nearest hand sanitizer station using the My Disney Experience app.
Since making the important decision to temporarily close theme parks at Walt Disney World and Disney Parks Blog announced that "...we have continued to take time to focus on the well-being of our Cast Members, our Guests, our families and the local community we call home. To help other Central Floridians in need during this time, Walt Disney World Resort will donate excess food inventory like fresh salads, greens and expertly cooked hot items to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, as part of the ongoing Disney Harvest program." Launched in 1991, Disney Harvest collects excess and unserved food from locations throughout Walt Disney World, delivering it to feeding programs across Central Florida.
What you might not know…the Disney Harvest Program at Walt Disney World Resort collects and distributes more than 823,000 pounds of prepared, unserved food annually and supports Second Harvest’s work serving more than 40 Orlando-area nonprofits. In the last year alone, these donations provided one million meals to people in need.
“Second Harvest Food Bank is known for their vital work addressing critical food needs in Central Florida, and we know the important role we play in helping to bring meaningful solutions to our community in times of great need.” said Tajiana Ancora-Brown, Director of External Affairs at Walt Disney World Resort.
Walt Disney World’s longstanding support of Second Harvest Food Bank also includes monetary contributions and ongoing Disney VoluntEARS efforts, where Cast Members donate their time to collect, sort and distribute food donations. The organization is also the celebrated charity of the runDisney Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend, held each November, donating and distributing extra food from post-race snack boxes to those in need.

The Walt Disney World Resort has updated the list of transportation options will be available to Guests staying on property now that all theme parks and water parks have closed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Until then, the following transportation options are available:

On our recent trip to WDW, last week of February and first week of March, we almost canceled the trip due to what we saw was happening. We decided to go and hopefully get back home before it got worse. So far we are doing fine and pray the same for everyone. We mentioned to many of our Disney family to make sure they had essentials just in case this got worse, told them to buy non perishable foods such as canned goods, rice, crackers, some frozen, not to overdo on frozen. Now this has hit and they tell us they are okay, we can only hope and pray they are for however long this takes. We are now looking forward to eventually getting back to WDW and enjoying life.
Disney Parks Blog released this announcement (for all those concerned about how the animals at Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park are doing):
Although Walt Disney World Resort is temporarily closed, Disney’s Animal Care team is continuing to provide top-notch care to the thousands of animals who roam our savanna and seas. We are diligently following state and federal guidelines to ensure the health and safety of our dedicated team.
Check out a video that shares more about the amazing work our cast members are doing to ensure our animals continue to thrive at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Before you mentioned this, I just figured that Disney would have people there to take care of the animals and this is just my thinking, they have people staying on property and making sure everything is okay each day. I would love to be one that is taking care of something in WDW instead of sitting here in NYS in the highest infested area of the country. Could be swimming instead of watching snow come down yesterday with ice. We are at this time 1 week avoiding everything and everyone.
UPDATE: The Orange County mayor has announced that he will be signing a stay-at-home mandate for all of Orange County starting Thursday, March 26 at 11:00 PM for two weeks. Disney has yet to make any official announcements at this point, but the two-week period would put the closure past the originally-stated April 1 reopening date for Walt Disney World Resort. Expected reopening at this point would be April 9 at the earliest.

I believe the April 1 date was a happy thought and to make the closure seem not as long as it may get.
It would be nice to get this done with and not lose anymore lives.
Walt Disney World has now announced that they will only begin accepting reservations for dining and resorts for travel dates starting June 1 and later. As per the Walt Disney World Resort website:

As always, Guests are able to modify these bookings if Walt Disney World Resort opens before or after that time.
As we previously shared, unexpired multi-day theme park tickets with unused days, or date-specific theme park tickets with a valid use period beginning March 12, 2020 through the closure will automatically be extended to use any date through December 15, 2020. If you are unable to visit by December 15, 2020, you may apply the value of a wholly unused ticket toward the purchase of a ticket for a future date.
