Gondola Aerial Transportation System

Thank you for steering me to the correct thread.  With tax season almost over, my mind is clearer from the numbers. 

Apparently, this is no longer a rumor. On April 19th, I posted that the permits had been filed to make this form of transportation system a reality. To further indicate that this project is moving forward, construction if beginning near the Epcot International Gateway. It is thought that the construction reported in this area is for the Gondola Transportation System since the permits filed earlier this year show that there will be a station at the International Gateway.

I will try to keep you posted as construction (and announcements) continue.

During the D23 Expo, this new gondola transportation system was given a name....Disney Skyliner. Disney Parks Blog reports that Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, made the rumor official by announcing that the Disney Skyliner will soon give guests a bird’s-eye view of Walt Disney World Resort.

The transportation system will connect Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney's Pop Century Resort, Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort and the newly-announced DVC Disney's Rivera Resort and other locations with Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the International Gateway at Epcot. And many of the gondolas with Disney Skyliner will feature favorite Disney characters.

Since all gondola / skyways are based on the same principal and design, that would like sense that it reminds you of the original MK skyway.

This reminds me of the World's Fair.

Last Friday, Disney Parks Blog announced some new information regarding the Disney Skyliner Transportation System.

According to the announcement, "select Disney Skyliner cabins will have iconic Disney characters incorporated into their exterior design to give the appearance that a Disney pal is riding along with guests, such as characters from the ‘Fab Five,’ figures from Disney attractions, fan favorites from movies, and more."  Below is a picture of the concern art of what these cabins might look like.



The article further describes the designs of the Disney Skyliner stations involved in this transportation system.  At International Gateway at Epcot, the station "will be inspired by the park’s nearby European Pavilions, and will be covered with metal and glass canopies, hand-painted murals and ornamental steel structures that harken back to the early 18th century Art Nouveau style. Guests traveling to Epcot via the Disney Skyliner will be welcomed to the park with a rare birds-eye view of World Showcase."  Below is the concept art of the International Gateway Station.

"The Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort station will be the hub of activity for Disney Skyliner. This station is inspired by the open air village marketplaces of the Caribbean and will showcase the nearby resort’s architectural detailing and color schemes. At this station, passengers will be able to transfer gondola routes to reach their destination, or are invited to sit and admire the waterfront resort setting."  Again, below if the concept art of this station.

"The design style of the station at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will fit with that of the park’s main entrance and bus stations. Passengers traveling here from the Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort station can expect a new aerial perspective of the park’s iconic attractions, like The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror."

"Disney’s Pop Century Resort and Disney’s Art of Animation Resort will share a Disney Skyliner station that feels whimsical and contextual with both resorts. Upon departing the gondola station, Skyliner passengers will ascend over Hourglass Lake and enjoy a panoramic view of these two colorful resorts."  No concept art of this station have been released.
