Hi everyone! I am extremely excited, for tomorrow I'll start my trip to Orlando!
I'll arrive on Tuesday May 2nd and the weather looks awful, lot of thunderstorms... so a question popped into my mind. What attractions close at WDW when there are thunderstorms in the area?
I know it may vary depending on a lot of things, but Splash mountain would be pretty much a sure thing to close momentarily... right?
Typically, it is just the outdoor rides. All the indoor rides have lightening rods to help avoid lightening strike damaging the rides. Also, the shows will be closed (Beast and The Beast, Indiana Jones, etc...) but Country Bear Jamboree will still run and the attractions in World Showcase will rub too.
ENJOY YOUR TRIP AND HAVE A SAFE ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Prior: Offsite most every other years from 1972 - 2000

Going in the summer rather religiously we have learned a few things -look for "longer' experiences - we love Carousel of Progress in a T-storm. Also think of interactive queues to make waits better or look for hidden Mickeys. Not sure where you are staying, but don't forget to factor in transport options - boats might stop. Pools are also closed at resorts if lightning is within a certain radius. We always stop buy or bring a deck of cards for these days that are inevitable.
We were caught in a rainy part of the year one time. Outdoor rides and shows were closed, goes without saying. Just be flexible in your schedule and you might want to put a weather alert app for the Orlando region in your phone. My daughter and I had to make a hasty exit from Fantasmic one evening and the weather app gave us a head's up on lightning in the area before the cast members ask everyone to leave.

A few years ago we were at EPCOT and just finished Spaceship Earth, the lightning was terrible along with torrential rain. We had a nice seat inside for about 1 hour, we wanted to leave and make our dinner at Tutto's in Italy. Each time the storm let up we made our way only to seek shelter in another area. When we finally reached UK a very bright flash and loud thunder hit within a split second of each other. As we hunkered down inside the UK we heard sirens coming our way. We finally decided to head back to our room at the Beach Club and change our clothes since we were soaked. Our son said he will keep checking the news on his phone to see what happened, I told him most things are not reported. So he says, what happens the men in black come and tell everyone to look into the light. hahhaha Needless to say we never made Tutto's but we were able to get a table at Cape May for our first time and this was just a walk up. Most likely people had to cancel their dinner at Cape May also.
