I have seen alot of funny things in my visits to WDW but a few years ago we saw and witnessed something that to this day still amazes me and makes me chuckle.
We were staying at the Beach Club in the Villa section, over near the lagoon so our balcony faced the small lagoon next to the DVC "quiet" pool.
That year we were there for a 10 day trip. and we had neighbors in the next room that were at the pool almost every day. The were 2 families sharing a 2 bedroom suit. Each day the wives and kids would go to the parks and the husbands would sit at the pool and finish off a case or 2 of Bud Light. Each day they would go to Publix and get a new case, I remember the special USA commemorative cans. they would also barbeque on the grill out by the pool. They never went to any of the restaurants. Again leaving that for their wives and kids. They would also listen to their radio, playing Marshall Tucker , but it wasn't very loud and noone complained. Note: this pool is usually empty during a normal day, but very crowded at night.
They were pretty nice folks, long hair, beards and sleeveless shirts, with cut off jeans, they explained to me that they only joined DVC because their wives wanted to, but they had no desire to visit the parks. They fully enjoyed sitting by the pool and drinking beer. They were not rude or obnoxious and you couldn't tell if they were drunk. They would always offer me a beer when we would visit the pool ( we used to space out park and pool days). They never swam either. They got to the pool early every day to make sure they got the table and umbrella that they wanted.
So
One morning I was out on the balcony reading a book (my family sleeps late) and I hear "whirrrr, Bang, Bang, Slam , whirrrrrrr" !!
I look over and my neighbors were fishing off their balcony into the lagoon and whenever they caught a fish, they would pull it up dragging it across the path , slamming into the person's sliding glass door on the first floor and then pulling the fish into their room. It was hilarious.
If you know the area where I am talking about, there are a few rooms where this is possible, and theirs was the perfect position. It was a difficult cast, but the lagoon was filled with giant Bass and while the bass would slam against the fence and drag across the walking path, if it was hooked on good it worked well. All i can say was that I was so amazed by what they were doing.
They only did it early so they could not get caught. But I could imagine the people on the first floor wondering what the heck was banging on their window, and why there was oil and fish scales on the window....They would catch some pretty big bass. Then they would clean the fish ( Villas have full kitchens ) and then go outside and grill the fish.
Talk about a way to save on the dining plan !!!
Please feel free to tell us any funny story that you were able to witness.
