Last week, Disney announced the NEW 2018 Disney Dining Plans (DDP) and the new costs.
First, let's look at what is new about them and then we can compare the prices. The new and big change is the addition of specialty drinks allowed through the DDP. For guests under 21, the DDP's come with one single-serve non-alcoholic beverage of your choice. But for guests over 21, the DDP's come with your choice of either one single-serving non-alcoholic beverage or one single-serving mixed cocktail, beer, or wine within their meal entitlements.
A single-serving non-alcoholic beverage includes items such as:
Artisanal Milkshakes
Fresh Smoothies
Premium Hot Chocolate
Soda, Coffee or Tea
A single-serving alcoholic beverage includes items such as:
Beer or Cider
Wine or Sangria
Mixed Drinks and Specialty Cocktails
Despite long-running rumors about Be Our Guest, the dinner service is currently still listed as 1 dining credit compared to all other sit-down specialty dining options.
Now, what does the addition of specialty drinks do to the costs of of the dining plans? Well, here is the comparison:
2017 (prices include tax)
2018 (prices include tax)
So, with that being said, is it worth the difference??? Here is simple way to figure it out.
1) Which do you usually pick when you go to WDW???
2) Do you usually or would you like to have a beer or wine with dinner???
3) Look up the menu of your favorite restaurants and look at the prices of beer or wine and compare that to the increase in the prices
Here is my take and example (use my list above):
1) My wife and I usually get the Regular DDP for short trips and the Deluxe DDP for long trips.
2) We like to dine at Be Our Guest (beer $9 - $11.75, wine $9 - $17), Artist Point (wine $14 - $19), D-Luxe Burger (beer $7.25 - $11), Le Cellier (wine $16 - $21), Rose & Crown (beer $9 - $13.75) and Raglan Road (beer $8 - $8.50, wine $10 - $14).
3) The difference in prices from 2017 and 2018 Regular DDP is $6.14 and this WELL covers the cost of adding a glass of wine or beer with every table-service meal. The difference in prices from 2017 and 2018 Deluxe DDP is $9.57 and this either covers the cost or breaks even with having a glass of wine or beer with every quick-service or table-service.
So, for us, the increase in price would cover the cost what we would have spent anyhow so (again) for us it would be no big deal to pay a little more.
What do you think??
