The problem for me is that this is less magical than de magic band. And I know that's kinda silly, but it does bothers me when Disney does these "non magical" choices... But I can see the new generations loving this new "gadget"
I completely agree with you. It is "Magical" when everything is linked to your MagicBands. My wife's concern is what if you run out of the room to get ice or to refill your resort mug. She doesn't take her cell phone in those situations. So, does this mean that she won't be able to get back into the room. When we get to the resort, she doesn't carry around her cell phone and only checks it once a day to messages.

Yeah, my exact thooughts. I think it can be an alternative method but, replacing the magic band completely? it doesn't work for me. Another thing to get in consideration is, not every country has advanced cell phones. In Argentina for example, almost noone has Iphone, nor the Galaxy S... models. the app takes up to 2 minutes to load in those phones, and it doesn't run in the back, so it disconnects from the net every time you close it. Imagine having to go through all that just to get into your room!
Disney announced on July 24, 2018 that they will be expanding this service to the Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, Disney’s Beach Club Resort, Disney’s Beach Club Villas, Disney’s Boardwalk Inn, and Disney’s Boardwalk Villas.
For a recap, Disney unveiled a keyless feature coming to the MyDisneyExperience app backin April of this year. This allow guests to unlock their guest room doors through the app using Bluetooth technology. Originally only available at the Wilderness Lodge and Wilderness Lodge Vacation Club Resorts, this fun tech was also rolled-out to Fort Wilderness Cabins in May.

I'm interested in hearing from guests to see how this worked.
I know personally that when they started the magic bands to open the door it took them 4 days to fix it for us. This was after I would go to the front desk and have them open our door for us.
It will be interesting to see how this works especially when we don't have the right phone.
keeping up with the future is always (eventually)a good thing. I will post how this goes for us guests who drag their feet sometime in October. If this trip doesn't happen because of Jet Blue like our last one I'll have our son drive us down.
