Starting March of this year, Disneyland Paris will be testing out new “Magic Cards”. The magic cards will replace the paper easy-pass and paper meal vouchers resort guests typically receive.
The card, made out of plastic, will let resort guest enter their room, gain entry to the parks, and pay for items and food at different locations within the resorts and parks. Also the paper meal vouchers (which are often re-sold on websites) will be integrated within the new “Magic Cards”. The Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show and tickets for the Halloween, New Year’s Eve and the RunDisney event can also be added to the Magic Card.
At this time the test will only be deployed for guests at the Hotel New York and run most likely until the fall of this year, when the hotel will close for a long refurbishment and re-open as Hotel New York the Art of Marvel.
It is most likely that Disneyland Paris will be using these Magic Cards at the resort hotels and the surrounding partner hotels once they fully rollout. This is all subject to change at any point as Disney is still in the early testing phase.
These Magic Cards are reminiscent of the very first days of the MyMagic+ at Walt Disney World, where guests were given the first RFID-enabled media to test. At this point it’s not exactly in the near future, but maybe the day will come when we will see MagicBands (or something of the sort) at Disneyland Paris.
