The Tribune (a Bahama-based newspaper) reported last week, May 8, 2018, that "Disney Interest In Bahamas Investment Confirmed".
The article states that Disney Cruise Lines does have an interest in furthering its investments in the Bahamas, according to the company’s spokeswoman, Mrs. Kim Prunty, who yesterday responded to speculation and concern over the sale and development of Lighthouse Point, Eleuthera. Mrs Prunty confirmed the cruise line’s interest in the Bahamas, but did not name any specific site or property shortlisted for acquisition and development.
Disney Cruise Lines has recently been at the centre of speculation, with several sources on Eleuthera naming the company as the group behind the potential acquisition and development of the Lighthouse Point site. The 700-acre property is being advertised for sale by Bahamas Realty, and is listed on the Bahamas Real Estate Association’s website.
The area is being marketed as an “ideal setting for a grand vision, with exceptional beachfront acreage, colourful coral reefs and a breathtaking landscape.”
Mrs Prunty is further quoted saying while the cruise line didn’t have “anything to share about a specific location” at this time, any project pursued by the company in the future would involve a “partnership with the community” and build on its commitment to “sustainability, protecting the environment, creating jobs and economic opportunity, and celebrating the culture and stories of the area.”
The Tribune understands Lighthouse Point, despite its history and importance to the island of Eleuthera, sits on a privately owned property that is now listed for sale.
However, according to Private Island Inc., Lighthouse Point (Lighthouse Cay) has been taken off the market and is currently not for sale. This land was previously listed for $25 million.
According to Private Island Inc., "Lighthouse Point offers an incredible opportunity to own one of the most beautiful parcels of land in The Bahamas. A stunning peninsula with incredible beaches on both sides of the property, 3 interior lakes and 50 ft elevations make this a one of a kind opportunity in The Bahamas.
Lighthouse point offers over 4 miles of beachfront and iron shore with deep water access in the protected south east corner of the property. Lighthouse Point is ideal for the creation of a residential resort development, including marina and golf course, or a private estate.
This property is simply the best development opportunity in The Bahamas."
