Disney has confirmed that Rafiki’s Planet Watch at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will close permanently on October 20th. The entirety of Rafiki’s Planet Watch, including the Wildlife Express Train, will close forever at the end of the operating day on October 20th, 2018. The meet and greets at Rafiki’s Planet Watch will actually close earlier, on September 29th, 2018.
The animal-care Cast Members working there will remain, as the veterinary facilities will remain in service for the foreseeable future. Disney has not announced anything new to be built in this area, so at the moment it is unclear if the closure is a budgetary decision or making way for future expansion of the park.

As a veterinarian, I thought Rafiki's was a great way for kids and adults to see the "back side" of a veterinary clinic plus a great for all guests to learns more about animals and their environments.
We go about every other we are down and was planning to head there when we are down in November of this but I guess that won't happen. I told my wife (who is a licensed veterinary technician) that they were closing Rafiki's and she was disappointed as well.

Disney confirmed today that Rafiki’s Planet Watch’s closure will in fact be temporary rather than permanent, and the area and Wildlife Express Train will reopen in Spring 2019. This will allow time for an “extensive refurbishment”, where Disney is expected to rework the area’s offerings to appeal more to today’s guests.

Temporary yes, permanent no. I would hate to see Rafiki's close permanently. We always go there when in AK. And the Wildlife Train? Trains are so Disney...they are part of the fabric.

So, it turns out the Rafiki's was under refurbishment as it is back open with a new experience.
For years, it was a quiet respite from the rest of the hustle and bustle of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, but guests have been deprived of goat meet and greets and the Wildlife Express Train ever since the attraction temporarily closed on Saturday, October 20th, 2018. Thankfully, Rafiki’s Planet Watch has officially reopened with a brand-new attraction known as The Animation Experience.
