Finally broke down and watched the Gardians of the Galaxy movie. It was cute AND had Chris Pratt. It seems like another Star Wars type area/ride, but that is what is in right now.

It's a Marvel Comic and since my husband is a D.C. Comic person, I'm lost. It had a talking raccoon....

According to Disney Parks Blog, Disney officially announced at D23 Expo that a “Guardians of the Galaxy-inspired attraction will be added to Future World, adhering to the original vision of Epcot’s Future World as the place to experience the excitement and adventure offered by space travel."
The attraction will be based on the rockin’ and action-packed world of “Guardians of the Galaxy” and is the next step in how guests can encounter these characters at the Walt Disney World Resort.
Based on the concept picture, the Universe of Energy Pavilion will stay but unfortunately this means that Ellen's Energy Adventure must close. The last day for Ellen's Energy Adventure is slatted for August 13, 2017. The plan is that this new attraction will be open in time for WDW's 50th Anniversary.

It is a nice quiet ride but it is a little dated as this version of the Universe of Energy is 21 years old (opened September 15, 1996) and hasn't had an update since. Actually, that was only a minor change (music and adding Ellen) from the original Universe of Energy that opened in 1982; therefore, no major update has been done for the 35 years!!!! If they are replacing it or giving it a new face lift hasn't been confirmed yet. There are rumors that GOTG is replacing it but nothing has been confirmed. Maybe they are just going to update it. Either way, I agree it is a nice ride but it NEED updating.
We missed this one all three years we have been going. Wished we could have worked it in.

Disney announced yesterday that the Guardian of the Galaxy ride at Epcot will actually be a roller coaster. Information is limited but what is known is that guests will board the ride in the former Universe of Energy building and then the ride launch guest through a tunnel and into a 10-story tall building. Reports are that the coaster will be the first of its kinda but the details are limited no how it will differ from other roller coasters.

During D23 Expo Japan, Disney shared more details on Epcot’s highly-anticipated “Guardians of the Galaxy” attraction, announcing it was a roller coaster.
With the “Guardians of the Galaxy”-inspired coaster, Disney says they’re going big. This one-of-a-kind family attraction will be one of the world’s longest enclosed roller coasters when it’s added to Future World at Epcot. It’ll feature a unique story currently being created by Walt Disney Imagineering and include a new innovative ride system that Disney says is guaranteed to “wow” guests.
The “Guardians of the Galaxy”-inspired coaster is part of the ongoing work to transform Epcot into a place that’s more family, more relevant, more timeless and more Disney. “As we build upon its core mission of optimism and hope to inspire the world, the real will become fantastic and the fantastic will become real—in whole new ways at Epcot,” Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, said.

Here is cool update on this ride. For anyone that has been by the old Energy building recently will have noticed that the solar panels on the roof are all gone and the mirrors on the sides are gone as well. But.... Disney filed a new patient for the cars of the Guardians of the Galaxy ride.
According to WDW News Today, The Walt Disney Company is at it again. They have submitted a patent for a new roller coaster car design that will allow for the cars to rotate on an axis during the course of the ride. The patent is specifically for the roller coaster cars for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy roller coaster at Epcot, as seen in leaked photographs some time ago.
Not only does this confirm that the coaster will be getting the revolutionary ride system that Bob Chapek spoke of, but it shows off exactly what this new system is capable of. A common issue in reusing tracks for rotation carts is that the carts need a source of power as the ride goes to initiate the rotation. The new patent answers that question by having charging docks added to the loading and unloading areas as well as in a few locations throughout the ride. These charging stations will be added to the typical bus bar system that rides typically employ for charging.
Regardless of the results of the patent submission, the idea that the Imagineers have proposed here could be revolutionary in revamping upcoming future attractions.
WOW. That vehicle certainly is promising! I like the design, I am guessing it's going to be trains made of 3 or four of those? Like the Gringotts ride? I'm really looking forward to this ride, I think it is the one I am most excited, even more than the Tron one
At D23 Expo 2019, Disney revealed the name of the new Guardians of the Galaxy’s roller coaster in Epcot will be called Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at Epcot will feature the first reverse launch into space! This thrilling, family-friendly attraction will feature a never-before-seen storytelling coaster that rotates to focus on the action – wherever it may be. Disney also revealed that the attraction will in fact be Disney Parks’ first reverse-launch coaster.
The adventure starts in the “Galaxarium,” a planetarium-like exhibition that explores the similarities and mysteries of the formation of Earth’s galaxy and Xandar. Guests will be invited to learn more about the treasures Xandar has to share – until the moment when the Guardians of the Galaxy arrive, and adventures across the cosmos ensue.
