Here are some up close photos of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge from the Disneyland Resort website:
This is an overview of the entire "land". In the far right photo, you can see Ronto Roaster, Kat Saka's Kettle, Savi's Workshop - Handbuilt Lightsabers, Droid Depot, and Toydarian Toymaker.
At more than 14 acres, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is the largest single-themed land in Disney Parks history, packed with immersive storytelling that allows you to live your own Star Wars adventure.
Get ready to be transported to a galaxy far, far away in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, on a journey to Batuu, the newest location in a story that began in 1977 with the first Star Wars film. You will become part of the story as you sample galactic food and beverages, enter an intriguing collection of merchant shops and take the controls of the most famous ship in the galaxy aboard Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run.
Scott Trowbridge, Portfolio Creative Executive at Walt Disney Imagineering gives us a peek inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland park.
When Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens at the Disneyland Resort in just a few days, you will be invited to step into the Star Wars universe for the very first time and live your own Star Wars adventures. To help you plan ahead and prepare for your visit, here are nine things to “know before you go” to this epic, new land, opening May 31.
1. Reservations are required to enter Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge between May 31 and June 23. If visiting during this time, valid theme park admission and a reservation are needed to enter the new land at Disneyland park. If you have a reservation, you may check in at Star Wars Launch Bay in Tomorrowland up to 2 hours prior to your reservation start time, and go to the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge entrance as directed when your reservation begins. When you check in, please bring your reservation confirmation (including QR code), government-issued ID and all members of your party listed on the reservation. At this time, general reservations are no longer available on Disneyland.com.
2. You can still get a reservation to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge by staying at a Disneyland Resort hotel between May 31 and June 23*. Guests staying at one of the three Disneyland Resort hotels between May 31 and June 23 will receive a designated reservation to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge during their stay (one reservation per registered guest; valid theme park admission required). Hotel guests will be notified of their reservation date and time with their registration confirmation. You may book a stay at Disneyland.com/Hotels or call (714) 520-5060. If the hotel reservation is cancelled, the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge reservation will be cancelled.
3. No standby line will be available to enter Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge between May 31 and June 23. Only guests with reservations will be able to access the land during this time.*
4. If you plan on visiting opening day, May 31, there is no need for guests with Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge reservations to arrive early because of the reservation system we have in place. You can begin to check in two hours prior to your reservation start time. You may begin parking at select theme park parking lots at midnight.
5. Reservations will no longer be required to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge after June 23. As needed, to manage demand, Disneyland Resort will implement a virtual queueing system to visit the new land so you can enjoy the rest of the resort while waiting to visit Batuu. The Disneyland app will have a dedicated module, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – Status and Access, available from the main page, on which you can request to join a boarding group to visit the land, once you have entered the park. Boarding groups will be sent a push notification when it is their turn to enter the land and they can monitor status of boarding groups from the app. There will also be the ability to join a boarding group from select locations inside Disneyland park, if you are not using the app. The boarding group is tied to admission media that will be scanned upon entry into the land. Signage throughout the park will also display boarding group status. Admission into Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be subject to capacity, and having an assigned boarding group will not guarantee entrance to the land.
6. The current Disneyland Resort costume policy will be in effect in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Costumes may not be worn by guests 14 years of age or older. Appropriate Disney bounding – dressing in outfits inspired by favorite characters – is permitted.
7. Download the official Disneyland mobile app to plan ahead and make the most of your visit to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The Disneyland app** allows you to check the attraction wait time, locate character encounters and even utilize the mobile ordering feature at select dining locations when you are in the new land.
8. Prepare for your visit to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge by downloading the Play Disney Parks mobile app in advance of your arrival. The Play Disney Parks app** allows you to deepen your engagement with the land and interact with the world around you on the planet Batuu. Should you choose to engage through the app, you will be able to interact with droids, translate Aurebesh, scan cargo crates and other containers to collect virtual items, and more.
9. Inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, our goal is to provide a great guest experience. For example, while you are in the queue at Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, you will have the ability to purchase snacks, utilize a continued process to visit the restroom, enjoy cast interactions, and also engage with an in-queue game while using the Play Disney Parks mobile app to make wait times fun, interactive and enjoyable.

*Access to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge experiences is subject to capacity. After June 23, 2019, when reservations will no longer be required, access to Disneyland Park, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and experiences is subject to capacity.
**Message, data and roaming rates may apply. Availability subject to handset limitations, and features may vary by handset, service provider or otherwise. Coverage and app stores not available everywhere. If you’re under 18, get your parents’ permission first.
We all now Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge will open tomorrow and I bet you can't wait to ride Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. What if you go to take that ride with a Walt Disney Imagineer? Well, no you can as Disney just released a video of Asa Kalama, Executive Creative Director, Walt Disney Imagineering riding Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run.
Combining immersive storytelling with interactive gameplay, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run makes you the protagonist of your own Star Wars adventure in a way never before undertaken by Disney Parks.
When it’s time for the mission to begin, you’ll strap yourself into the Falcon cockpit in groups of six. Each person is assigned one of three critical roles to complete your mission: Pilots, Gunners and Flight Engineers.
Following the events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Chewbacca brought the Falcon to Black Spire Outpost for repairs at this spaceport on the edge of the galaxy. In exchange for some much-needed replacement parts, Chewie is loaning the Falcon to Hondo Ohnaka, a smuggler turned “legitimate” businessman, who is now making good use of the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs. It is at this point you enter the story of Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run.
Last night was the streaming event of the dedication ceremony of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. If you didn't get to watch or stay late long enough to see for the East Coast people (like me), here is a replay of it.
Before the historic dedication ceremony, Williams, Lucas, Ford and Hamill visited Disneyland Park and posed in front of the Millennium Falcon.
Walt Disney Imagineering released a video of how they built the spires of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge
It took a mix of sophisticated digital technology and intricate hand-finished artistry to create the iconic spires and rock work in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The Imagineers behind this masterpiece brought together a multitude of diverse skills and disciplines to help transport guests to this fully immersive experience on the outer rim of the galaxy.
I also found a video that Walt Disney Imagineering released in February 2019 regarding the building of Hondo Ohnaka, who you will find in Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run.
A1000 advanced robotics are the next evolution of the A100 Audio-Animatronic figures that were first introduced by Walt Disney Imagineering in the mid-1980s. This standardized system for building humanoid robotic figures incorporates new electric functionality, replacing former hydraulic functions, producing extremely realistic, lifelike movement. Future figures in humanoid form can all use this system to ensure the same degree of realism and advanced levels of movement.
The advanced figures that were developed for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge - like this animated figure of Hondo Ohnaka, as seen in the Star Wars animated television series - are a hybrid of A1000 technology enhanced with custom-built elements.
Most people like to dress up like their favorite character. Disney does have certain rules when it comes to dressing up and has released a reminder about the appropriate attire. For off-worlders visiting Batuu and dressing in attire befitting their stories, the current Disneyland Resort costume policy remains in effect in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
While costumes may not be worn by guests 14 years of age or older, appropriate bounding—dressing in outfits inspired by Star Wars—is permitted. The following guidelines will help you arrive to Batuu in style. Proper footwear must be worn.
Permitted attire includes:
(courtesy of Disney Parks Blog)
- Bounding: piecing together traditional clothing items that when worn together, serve as a recognizable tribute to Star Wars characters
- Batuuan attire: wearing outfits inspired by the villagers of Batuu—muted tones, vests, layers, etc.
Not permitted attire includes:
- All robes or military-style attire
- Masks, face paint, elaborate headwear, blasters or holsters (lightsabers are allowed) or hard items such as body armor, helmets or kneepads
- Full character suits
Please note some of the items sold in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge cannot be worn inside the land. We look forward to seeing you dressed in your Batuuan best!
With June 24th fast approaching, the reservation section of visiting Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge is coming to an end. Disney Parks Blog release the next installment of "Know Before You Go".
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has been sharing the unique sights, sounds, smells and tastes of Batuu with off-worlders with reservations since May 31. As this epic new land opens starting June 24, there is so much to see and do including strolling the Black Spire Outpost Marketplace, tasting blue or green milk and taking the controls of the Millennium Falcon. Here are some great tips to help you plan your visit to the far-flung destination of Batuu, beginning June 24!
Boarding Groups
For guests wishing to live out Star Wars adventures and access Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge beginning June 24, Disneyland Resort may utilize a virtual queuing system, as needed, to help everyone have a great experience. Download the Disneyland app before arriving and check the app or signage the day of your visit to find out if you will need to be part of a boarding group to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge that day. The boarding group will save you a virtual spot in line so you can enjoy other experiences while you wait to be notified of a time to enter.*
You may use the Disneyland app to request to be part of a boarding group after entering Disneyland park, if implemented that day. Simply link the theme park tickets of everyone in your party together on the app to request the same boarding group for your entire party. To see which boarding group is currently being admitted to the land, look on the app or digital signage in the park.
If you enable push notifications on your mobile device, you will be notified when it is time to enter the land. If not, continue to check the Disneyland app or digital signage in the park, and enjoy other experiences, while awaiting your boarding group. You have up to two hours to enter the land after your boarding group is called for admission, so there is no rush!
For guests not using the Disneyland app, a boarding group may be obtained with a park admission ticket at select Disney FASTPASS Service locations such as Haunted Mansion, Indiana Jones Adventure, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain or near the Matterhorn Bobsleds.
