The Walt Disney Company signs contract with Pinewood Studios

WDW News Today reported last week that The Walt Disney Company has signed a 10-year lease for a majority of the resources at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire. Pinewood Studios, located about 20 miles outside of London city center, has numerous back lots, stages, and other production spaces.

This deal comes soon after Netflix announced a deal with Pinewood’s Shepperton studios to create their original content. Speculation about this deal is Disney is trying to secure a foothold in the U.K. for production talent and to secure valuable production space in the region.
Disney has previously used Pinewood Studios for films such as Mary Poppins Returns, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and Guardians of the Galaxy. Financial details of the deal are not known at this time, but the deal should commence some time in 2020.
