We will be taking our 2-1/2 year old daugther for her first trip/our 5 year anniversary trip. We will be down there for a week. It will be the end of May 1st week of June 2018. Would you recommend Yacht Club - Water/Boardwalk view; Animal Kingdom Lodge - Savanah View; or Split Stay? Our daughter loves water and she also loves animals. We will spend 2 days @ Magic Kingdom; 1 or 1-1/2 days at Epcot; 1 resort day; 1 or 1-1/2 days at Disney Springs; 1/2 day at Hollywood Studios and 1 day at Animal Kingdom. I am hesitant to do AKL this trip since our daughter will only be 2-1/2 and all Disney transportation is busses; while YC has more options to the parks.
Ok as a Mom who has been a single mom taking 3 kids solo to Disney for over 30 years it's hard to split stay so I recommend picking one resort and staying one leaving the other resort for another trip....so is she more an animal lover or pool lover? Then choose between those two VERY GOOD resorts......they both have so much unique things to offer it's really a personal choice....my big thing is Kids only remember what they DID and not what they DIDNT do.....so stop overthinking it....you know you will, be back again ....choose one and let the forum help you choose awesome things to do with your stay.....just saying...,
second star to the right and straight on till morning
With a little one, I don't think any Transportation will be easy from Yacht club. Except for Epcot. You would have to push your daughter all thru Epcot to use monorail to MK. Or you would have 20 minute push to Hollywood. Do AK, relax on the bus. No need for parent meltdown too.

I totally agree with Dean.....plus Yacht Club isn't one of the most kid friendly spots.....if I know adult only coming to Disney I usually tell them Yacht Club is quiet with very few kids....

Time to disagree, the Yacht Club is more convenient than Animal Kingdom Lodge, it is also a very child friendly resort, go and check out the main pool, it's full of children, reason we use the Admiral pool. They have games for the children to play during the day with instructors.
Beaches and Cream, Hurricane Hanna's, arcade all right there. Night time movies have moved to the grass area and off the beach.
the boat ride to HS is relaxing and air conditioned. the walk to EPCOT couldn't be better especially at night when it's time to leave.
If you are in the MK, it is not hard to take the monorail to EPCOT, beats taking a crowded bus back to the resort.
Animal Kingdom you have to take a bus to where ever you go unless you are driving.
Buses have made our decision to stay at the Yacht Club no contest, we hate buses with everyone being crowded in.

It's just a matter of preference. All of the Deluxe Resorts have the games with instructors, arcades, stores, and Movies at nite. AK included. Kidani Village also has a Kid Zone water area. and animals are at both AKV and AKL. Only real difference is bus ride and animals. Depending on the time, I've been on boats just as crowded as buses. Hopefully, You're at either resort with courteous people that will give you and your kids a seat to rest in.

The yacht club is best for children. Maybe the lobby is very Nautical, but the pool is amazing for children, you cannot beat Storm Along Bay. The sand bottom pool is awesome for kids. I have twin girls and that pool area was so great.
The Boardwalk area is convenient to Epcot and Hollywood Studios - You can walk to both ( Epcot in a few minutes ) or take a boat to DHS. You have access to the Beach Club resort to and can visit Boardwalk , Swan and Dolphin, they are all very close !! You have 3 ice cream places within walking distance, Many restaurant variations within walking distance a Great gift shop too, never crowded. Its a very quiet resort too
Animal Kingdom lodge is a great place too, but for a small child, the animals are not close enough to hold their interest for long. Plus its so far from almost every park. That means bus rides everywhere. No boats and no walking. There are 3 great restaurants in the resort but nothing else. The pool is very nice but no where near Storm Along Bay... Resort is a little noisy
This is an easy recommendation : YACHT CLUB
If you want to see the animals, you can visit the resort or just go to AK and see them up close.

That is exactly what I was trying to tell everyone AK is nice it is just not close enough or have options to the parks besides buses. Unless you drive, then that problem is eliminated.
We try very hard to eliminate taking buses they are the worst way to travel in WDW especially when you are hot and tired. We totally enjoy the short walk to EPCOT and the resorts around the Yacht.
Oh maybe I should say the Yacht is not worth it so a room is available for us when we want to go down again, That's it, AK is best.

Hilarious But I think so many people have never experienced that walk, once you get it, you are definitely spoiled ... The walk from Bay Lake Towers to MK is very short too, but you do need to cross a busy road and you end up in the same Main entrance. The Epcot walk is actually very nice and calm , plus its a small private entrance.

especially at the end of the night when everyone is pushing to the front of Epcot we just stroll out the back entrance.
Tell everyone that you know that the Yacht and Beach are not worth it, that it is so much more fun to take the monorail and buses. LOL
Perspective really comes into play here. What do you wish out of your resort is the real question?
If youre staying in a room that has animal views, AK could be an incredible experience.
However, the only transportation option is a bus. These lines can be long and the buses are like sardines at close. Since the child is stroller age, the stroller you have may add an added cramp to the travel if youre not renting one in the park.
Yacht club has boat and bus option.
I love that age, but memories created are probably gonna be valued more by the adults. The child most likely wont remember this visit.
With that in mind, I suggest the yacht club and save AK for a trip when the child is older and can revel in the magic of animals being so close and profit on the travel conveniences the Yacht Club provides

Sounds like a reasonable compromise.....I decided to change my mind.....stay at Yacht or Beach now

I agree. I would wait for AK when the child is a bit older. The pool area at Yacht and Beach is awesome...you can't beat a sand bottom pool and Stormalong Bay.
