I would say Animal Kingdom for a little one. However, when my kids were little we stayed at the Contemporary. Great pool close proximity to the Magic Kingdom, monorail, Chef Mickey and just a great atmosphere. It's very Disney. If you stay at the Yacht Vlub which is very lovely, however it has very little Disney theme.

Susie when mine were little we stayed at All Stars and Caribbean Beach....now that Bay Lake Tower is there we have stayed there multiple times when I've had families with little ones vacationing are down to visit.....but you are right! Animal Kingdom is amazing....I own 2 contracts there through DVC and 1 at Polynesian which I have yet to get to stay at.
i love the Disney themes screaming DISNEY at me!

We have only visited Animal Kingdom on several occasions and it is lovely, restaurant menu's look good (for me not my family).
In days of old we always stayed at Dixie Landings since they allowed 5 and the other moderates did not.
Then we started to stay at the Yacht Club since most of our time was EPCOT.
I always enjoyed walking out the back doors towards the boardwalk and feeling the heat hit me. My pick is always the Yacht Club.
