I have noticed some dessert parties are offered at WDW. Are they worth the extra price for dessert and hopefully a good view of the fireworks and shows? And if so, which is best and which isn't? Which is better with small children?

Well desert party in Magic Kingdom has a great view but what is a good price to one person may not be a good price to another.....the location is at the spot on your left as you are walking through the short cut over to Tomorrow land where you come out next to Laugh Floor.....most often you walk through there and nothing ever appears to be open or in use.....
second star to the right and straight on till morning
Epcot has one and it is an EXCELLENT view with absolutely no obstruction. That said, I would have to agree with Cathie, what is a good price for one may not be a good price for another. We have seen Illuminations several times and have never had a problem seeing it all so for us, the extra cost is not worth it where I could spend that extra money on food or beer.
Prior: Offsite most every other years from 1972 - 2000
Most recent: Offsite 2001 & 2003 / ASM 2006 / Offsite 2009 / Poly 2011 / POR 2013 / CR 2014 / GF 2015 / DS Hotel 2017 / BC 2017 / POR 2018
I thought about adding the Pirates Dessert one to our list, it seems they could get to meet Captain Hook and a friend or two. I have seen mixed reviews and trying to decide if it's a good choice. As of last night, they want a "kitchen sink" ice cream and a good spot in front of the castle!

True about the cost. I think I am more on the lines of, is it a great dessert bar with a view of fireworks, but come to find out it's more dessert and you might be able to watch the Fireworks....from behind a tree, post roof, etc. To me, that wouldn't be worth the gamble. But it sounds like there are some good options.

Is there a kitchen sink ice cream in MK? I thought it was just at the Beach Club/Yacht Club since their boardwalks are connected

It's a cute red sink with Mickey hands for fixtures. We got it in Main St.
