We just back from a trip to WDW, and I can tell you first that using Mobile Ordering on the app is very easy and efficient.
1) You open the app and click on Mobile Order in My Plans. You then select the restaurant you want to order from. We always waited until we were in the park for doing this.
2) They give you a list of times (30-minute gaps) to chose from. If you realize you are running late, you can change the time slot.
3) You select the ideas you wish to order; review the order; and then pay for the order. If you are using a gift card or Disney Visa Redemption card, you have enter the account in each time you pay for your order --- it doesn't save the card number. For us, we saved the number elsewhere on my phone and just cut-and-paste the number when paying for the order.
4) When you are ready, you click on "I'm ready to prepare my order". When we were at the Magic Kingdom, we had placed an order at Cosmic Ray's and had them start to prepare my order as we were leaving Adventureland.
5) You will then receive a notification or notice on the app that states your food is ready along with a order number (that they will need to verify your order) and which window to pick the order up at.
For us, it worked very easily. It was great to place your order and have them start preparing for it without us standing there in line. It seemed to save a lot of time and seemed very streamline. It made it very easy order at Docking Bay 7 as that is a very busy and popular restaurant with Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge still being new.
