We just recently came back from WDW and took the boat ride from the MK to the Wilderness Lodge for lunch. The boat was actually faster than most, the captain sang Christmas songs the entire way and everyone seemed to enjoy it. So don't overlook a boat ride, they are much nicer than the buses and at times the monorail also.
Speaking of the monorail, we took the boat back and got off at the Contempary Resort, boy was this a mistake, took us over 45 minutes, only one monorail was running on that track. We wanted to see the Polynesian so we waited, otherwise we would have walked to the MK.
The Friendship boats that bring guests to and from Hollywood Studios actually had extra's the night we saw Jingle Bell Jingle Bam. As we left the park expecting a long walk back, the line for the boats was long as it usually is, but another to our surprise was actually waiting. So we used the boats this time instead of walking. This was much better than walking that long walkway which has become even longer with the Gondola's being built.
Here is another question on getting from point A to point B.
We would like to split our stay and save some money at a moderate resort like Port Orleans then stay at a deluxe resort like the Yacht & Beach to end the vacation.
How would we get our luggage from PO to the Y&B without spending a lot of money? As for us, we could take the bus to EPCOT and walk thru the park to our next resort.

Oh, we fly so we wouldn't have a car.
OK, do not take this for granted as it was MY experience on 2017 changing from one Disney resort to another. Once I checked out from hotel A, went to the luggage deposit outside the lobby and once they confirmed I've already done Online check in for resort B; they took out bags and delivered them to resort B, where they were waiting for us at the baggage deposit and then delivered to our room once we got there. You may want to check if that's something that happens as a regular thing or if that was the work of a very very very amazing cast member gang...

Thanks dll, that would make things easier if they still do that, will have to check it out.

dll is correct. If you are doing a split stay, first of all it is posted that way on your reservation. You will check in at one resort like you normally would do and at the same time, they (or you via the MyDisneyExperience app) check you in for the second half of your stay. CM will move your luggage for you. From here, I have heard several different things.
One, you take your luggage to baggage check outside the resort (like if you were leaving for the airport) and then tell them there that you are changing resorts. The CM will make sure your luggage gets to the other resort. Two, when you are ready to check out of resort A, you call bell-hop, leave your luggage in your room, and the CM does the rest.
I do, however, have a curious question for you. Why waste a ticket just to walk through Epcot? If you plan on going back to Epcot that day then okay but if you are just using the ticket so you can walk from the main entrance to the International Gate, why waste the ticket?
To get from PO to BC or YC, you can as you mentioned take a bus to Epcot and walk through the park. You could also take the boat from PO to DS...this is a nice relaxing boat ride...and from DS catch a bus to BC or YC, this way you don't waste a ticket just to walk through Epcot to get to your resort.
We just got home after spending 17 days in WDW, this was our longest trip. The first 3 days were at PO French Quarter which is a nice resort. We did use the boat to DS and yes it is a nice relaxing ride. This was also our first WDW Resort that we stayed in 27 years ago and this was our first return since then.
Now about the transfer of luggage, we asked at the bell-hop and they told us we could leave it with them and they would handle everything. We almost did this, but decided against it due to medications and other medical things we needed. So we decided to get a taxi to take us and the luggage to the Yacht Club. The cost was about $12 plus tip.
I can understand your thoughts on the wasted ticket and would have thought the same way at one time. We are currently Annual Passholders so we can enter a park whenever at no further cost. I should have mentioned this.
Still unpacking and will get back to this forum with pictures and information we found out at a later time.

New return vehicles. One morning, we had plans to be in the MK, the iPad said 40% chance of rain, to me that means 60% chance of no rain. It was sunny and warm that morning but we took the poncho's anyway. As the bus approached the MK my wife says look at the sky, it was getting very dark. Then we headed to the security lines and it started to drizzle and heard thunder. We turned around and went back to the bus terminal to be dry while waiting for a return bus. The rain started to get very heavy when a white van stopped, the driver got out and asked us where were we headed, when we told him the Yacht, he says get in and opens the door for us. The entire ride back was heavy rain and lightning, it was such a very nice surprise having this van.
He said that they use these vans at certain times instead of buses. We were dropped off at the Yacht's front door and we handed him a tip thanking him very much.

Wow!!! Another case of Disney going above and beyond; keeping the "Magic" alive.

Disney announced last month that they will be offering a dedicated bus service to the water parks across The Walt Disney World Resorts, with direct buses to Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. Many resorts will have to share these direct buses in the form of a “bundled service” where a bus will make multiple stops prior to arriving at each respective water park.
Here are the resorts that will share direct buses:
- All-Star Sports, All-Star Music, All-Star Movies

Additionally, designated bus stops for water parks are now in place at specific resorts:
- Caribbean Beach: Old Port Royale
- Coronado Springs: El Centro/Stop #1
- Old Key West: Hospitality House
- Port Orleans: South bus depot
-Saratoga Springs (including Treehouse Villas): The Springs bus stop
Guests wishing to transfer from a theme park to a water park will need to board a bus to the closest resort, and transfer to a water park bus.
This is very good news. My last trip we went once to typhoon and twice to Blizzard Beach and that connection at Disney Springs was terrible. Specially now that MDE tells you when a bus is arriving, having to connect would never be as accurate as this, even sharing buses.
And also, from my experience (all stars, pop + AoA) those are almost like non sharing. Cant's speak for the other situations but in this cases is barely a time issue, and noone goes to the water parks at opening hours.
Not really a transportation tip but this does involve the bus system.
Blog Mickey is reporting that Disney is beginning the process of adding Wi-Fi to their fleet of buses. With Walt Disney World being such an international destination, Disney has wanted to bring Wi-Fi to their buses for some time now to help guests continue to plan and adjust their vacation via the My Disney Experience app who might have poor or no cellular signal. Disney already has free Wi-Fi in their Theme Parks and Resorts.
