Ok my newest tip bit is to add that now all 4 parks are now screening everyone entering the parks....Today I went to MK and they are the last to have it up and running....now at the parks you go through bag search and directly through the metal detectors much as you find at airports.....if you are with a stroller, the stroller gets left at the side and after you walk through you are able to grab the stroller.....the security stands right next to where you are told to leave it so I left my purse right in the stroller. You have to have keys, coins, wallets, everything out of your pockets and left in a little circular bowl just like they have at the airports while you walk through. Because I was there by myself with Milo who is 3-1/2 I walked him through it with me rather than leave him in the stroller. The security officer told me it's not necessary for children to walk through but as a single person with a very young one, they prefer that you walk the little one through with you rather than leaving them in the stroller. So, questions?
second star to the right and straight on till morning
I was chosen to go through the metal detectors last June, when it was a random pick. They actually had an extra officer that stood by my grandson's stroller as I walked through, making sure we both could see each other. They handed me bag and I was on my way. Took an extra 5 seconds of my time. Airports could learn from Disney!

Only refinement is security officers don't leave their post now to stand by a stroller.....u either leave child in it or take child through with you.....not a big deal

This issue really needs to be addressed which is unfortunate before something terrible happens. It's not people like us or for that matter the majority of vacationers, it's the others who don't care about life.
I read not too long ago about a man who was picked to go through the metal detectors and he had a pistol on him. He is now banned from Disney the rest of his life.
What was he thinking? I don't believe he was going to hurt anyone, I think it was more to be prepared in case something happened. The problem is you can't take the chance, I believe every person needs to go through metal detectors regardless, backpacks searched and then go through X ray or eliminated altogether. Strollers and motorized vehicles x rayed, things can be hidden inside them, the guards don't have all day to search completely.
This is not something to make go faster, it is more a case of eliminating what people can bring in. One time a man ahead of me had 4 backpacks on a double stroller, I picked the wrong line that morning, when he was finally finished I said to the security officer that they need to eliminate backpacks, he agreed and has suggested it.
On a lighter note, my daughter who is very thin and no baggy clothes with nothing to carry is always picked to go through the metal detectors.
She may hold a record for visits vs picked. I tell her she looks suspicious and her sunglasses always cause the alarms to go off, then she gets the wand to see where the metal is, she has learned to take the glasses off and put them in the tray before going through. LOL it must be to show they don't discriminate, Security needs to discriminate in my opinion.

Hi disneymike, you sound like a true veteran. I am too. Remember the security hired doesn't have the experience, However, they do a good job. They now have everyone going thru metal detectors, which I expected. It can't go faster because the Poor people think they need backpacks because Disney charges so much for items that everyone tells them is necessary for their day trip. I wish it wasn't this way, But Disney is doing the best they can to accommodate International Tourists. All I can say is Rememberyou are entering the Happiest Place On Earth. Leave your religious beliefs at the curb.
I think that's it. Vacation should be free of stress, worry and danger. Ok, there is a little of all those on a vacation! As my husband said when he called to check on us last year, "Remember, the officers you saw as you wait in the lines to get in, there are probably 10 times as many plain clothes security people blending in and watching closely." We were there the day after the Pulse Club shooting and the announcement t that WDW had been one of the places he had stake out.....and no, I don't know if Disney has plain clothes security, but as big as it is, I like to think they do.

They do! it's funny I was there the day of that incident. No Knowledge that anything was going on. I left that day.

We had friends and family blowing my daughter's phone and my phone up. Wanted to know if we were ok and did we feel safe. I told them I felt safer than being in the mall back home (and it's pretty safe)!

Actually Missy you ARE correct
second star to the right and straight on till morning
About 10 years ago, post 9/11, my family and I were at DLR. I was wearing my leather jacket (some people call it a biker jacket). At the time I used a flip phone and I wore it on my belt sideways. We rode Buzz Lightyear. When I exited the ride a plain clothed cast member asked me to speak to him outside. I complied of course.
Outside there were 6 of them, all plain clothed. The guy who asked me outside inquired if I was carrying a gun. I wasnt and said same. They asked why someone thought I was. I shrugged my shoulders and opened my jacket seeing my phone. It did look like a butt of a gun the way I carried it. I suggested that may be the issue. I cooperated fully, removed my jacket, they searched me. Gave them all my personal info.
They were incredibly kind and professional, but to their credit, they were there in force as well.
I assured them I actually appreciated their presence and the service. They were humble and apologetic. I shared that I appreciated their protection and knowing how they handled this issue made me feel much safer at the parks.
Nobody is ever 100% safe anywhere, but I do not worry when I am at the parks, and that situation re-enforces that feeling.

Security is probably more appreciated today. I have always thanked them for doing their jobs.
If there weren't idiots trying to bring guns and knives into the parks, then we would need that security. People have to be idiots and ruin the fun for everyone else.
Well, I sent 4 separate helpful suggestions to Disney Guest Relations, the last one was to help with security at WDW. They wanted to talk to me on the phone, so I made an appointment when I would call. I was afraid that I made some bad feelings with them. It was a very nice conversation and I went over each issue I thought could be improved on. They assured me that all my emails were sent to the appropriate areas. They also assured me that they are doing everything possible to make WDW safe for everyone. I told them that I already realized this and thanked them for the hard and never ending work they are doing.
