I am with you. The accident was September 2010 and as far as I remember, that was when they stopped allowing people to ride in the cab.
Cathie, when did this complaint that you are talking about happened??? I did some checking and couldn't find anything about it and all the reasons I found about not allowing people up front was relayed to the accident of 2010.
Doc Disney doesn't post employee complaints....this came from a cast member friend I know....i don't think Mike is correct, because my son got engaged at Disney after 2010 and they rode up front I believe.....let me check with them
Double check on that because that doesn't sound right.
Prior: Offsite most every other years from 1972 - 2000

So since we are talking about ride that have come and gone, can you name the original 24 rides/attractions that were available on OPENING DAY when WDW opened in 1971. I will give a hint on one of them as it is not really an attraction but more like a show. WDW used to call it an attraction originally but now calls it a show with show times. This should be easy for you, Cathie, since you won't let me forget that you were there shortly after it opened.

Dumbo

Railroad
tea cups
speedway
small world
does a trolley on main street count
I was close, at least I think I was.
Very close..... You listed 14 out of 24
So, a second question to your list..... Railroad??? Were all the stations open on opening day? If so, great!! If so, which one(s) was/were open?

No idea about all the stations for the railroad, the one in fantasy land was probably the last one open, I don't think that area was developed until late. 24 rides, you said 15 on opening day, I was just giving it my best guess, that was a long time ago and my first trip was in Oct. 75.
I was just doing some straightening up of books and came across the commemorative edition a behind the scenes visit to the Vacation Kingdom. What is nice about it, the corners are rounded, probably to prevent dog ears. What is not nice is as I was reading some of the pages came loose, glue gave out. Very nice pictures from the start of planning, construction and finishing. The year of publishing was in Roman Numerals, if my mind is correct it is 1978 MCMLXXVIII.
How did I do with the 14, were they running on opening day?
How about the skyway, Carousel of progress, Snow White, Mr. Toad and 20,000 leagues Under the Sea, maybe the Mike Fink keelboats and paddle wheeler

that gives me 21 if correct
Sorry I have to recount all the original ride.
You are good as in Skyway, Snow White's Scary Adventures, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride and Mike Fink Keel Boats were all open for opening day but 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Walt's Carousel of Progress, and The Liberty Belle (your paddle wheeler) were not.
So to re-cap, here is your list of correct ones (18 out of 24)....
Swiss Family Treehouse Jungle Cruise Enchanted Tiki Room (Opened at Tropical Serenade) Country Bear Jamboree The Haunted Mansion Peter Pan's Flight Dumbo the Flying Elephant The Hall of Presidents Walt Disney World Railroad Mad Tea Party Tomorrowland Speedway it's a small world Main Street Vehicles (trolley) Skyway Snow White's Scary Adventures Mike Fink Keel Boats Mr. Toad's Wild Ride Prince Charming's Regal Carrousel (some call it Cinderella Carrousel)

You got 21 correct but you are missing a few. Unfortunately, you are wrong on Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress and Space Mountain.

Not to sound picky but it you are going to stress what the name of the carrousel "WAS" originally called then you should make sure you have it correct!!!!
First of all, it is spelled CARROUSEL with two "R's" not one. Walt Disney named it after the old-world way of spelling which is with two "R's" as one "R" is the modern way of spelling it.
Second, the attraction was known as Cinderella's Golden Carrousel until June 2010 when the name was changed to Prince Charming Regal Carrousel. So, if you are going to correct drwadadli on that it WAS called "Cinderalles Carousel" then I correct you that it WAS called CINDERELLA's GOLDEN CARROUSEL!!!
As far as your diary, then you need to reread it because Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress did not open until January 15, 1975 NOT 1972 and Space Mountain did not open (also) until January 15, 1975. I guess your diary is wrong.

You are right about the name change and when the other ride opened but (just suggesting) you maybe don't have to be so blunt about how you respond to other's posts.

Doc, you said it the polite way. bigwdwfan, this site is to enjoy each others thoughts and memories about long ago and even yesterday and tomorrow. It's nice she has a diary, so the dates were wrong, so what. Try to be nicer from now on will ya.

It was suggested that I should behave myself better so I apologize for my bluntness (and rudeness). Thank you disneymike and drwadadli for reminding me that this is all for fun.

bigwdwfan, glad you took it the right way, I actually questioned myself if I should respond or not because I sometimes write something and didn't mean it the way it came out.
I researched the monorail accident that I mentioned some time ago, posted it to the wrong thread, so this is the correct thread to post it to. The reason they stopped letting guest ride up in the front of the monorail and the children received badges with wings saying that they were official pilots is because of an accident that occurred on July 5, 2009 at 2:00 am at the TTC and the driver was killed. The monorail ran into a stopped monorail, I was not able to find the cause of the accident. This was a terrible accident, the driver was 21 years old. Looking back, we went out of our way to get the front of the monorail, what a wonderful view, no way did I ever think this could happen with all the safety Disney goes through. Each time we talked to the pilot and they were always informative and aware of what was going on ahead of them. I would never have put my family in harms way if I thought for a minute this could have happened.
