Thanks for research....and you know first time we toured DVC the only resort there was ....was old key west.....at that time it was just called Disney Vacation Club......know David regretted now buying it back then
My parents and I took the tour before they even finished building the units. We saw the showroom. Why did he regret buying it back then???
Oops NOT buying it back then....in 94..... it was sooooo much cheaper than in 2011 when he came home from work with a corvette....I simply picked up the phone and bought my first 100 points in dvc

With RCI, I can trade into DVC and it would cost me my trading fee ($209) plus extra $1200 because it is Disney and to enjoy the DVC advantage.
We can trade with RCI and many others but Disney is where the value is. Also we can rent out points. It usually pays back double the Maintenance Fee. but its frowned upon.

I researched this for several months before I bought. When my kids and I were quoted 11000 for a 6 nite 2bedroom villa. i decided dvc was worth it.
They sound the same and very very similar. I could see the advantage if I was able to travel to Disney 3 - 4 times a year. We usually go once-a-year to every-other-year. When I am the only doctor at my clinic, it is difficult to get more than one vacation. Prior to this year (owning my own clinic), I worked emergency and my wife got 4 weeks vacation. During that time, we would go to Disney once a year and use the other weeks going to Germany for a week, UK for 17 days, Ireland for 14 days or 14-day cruise. I guess if I had more time it would make more sense but the problem with more time is that we also want to see the rest of the world. That is why we would go to WDW once a year and the other countries the rest of the vacation.
Thank you for your insight and information!!! Greatly appreciate the lesson learned.

I Have friends that go twice @year. 8000 a time. they wont buy. to each his own.
I agree with you....for them they should buy. When we go every other year, we go big! Week at GF with Deluxe Dining and tours. Week at PV with Deluxe Dining and more expensive tours.

I WOULD LOVE to own at PV (Polynesian Village) and would LOVE to stay at the bungalows.....it is the whole island experience and past for me. I guess that is why Neda (my wife) calls me "Island Boy".

I remember someone checking in who had rented DVC points and were bragging about it.....even the cast members had a bit of a frown on their face

I haven't even stayed there yet....I banked all my points for the cruise in 2017 and even had to borrow a few for 2018.....hoping to have enough left to do a week at AK with son and family in 2018 living local now I don't have to stay over....I just drive home....but always treat myself during food and wine staying at an Epcot DVC resort so I can walk back to the room

For you. you would bank your points then go every other year. The poly 2bedroom bungalows are 115 points@nite in Jan
DVC isn't for everyone....my niece and husband and 9 year old stay a week once a year and last year got FL annual resident passes to spread over last years visit and this years a few weeks before their passes expire.....What they spent that week I told them they could have bought 100 points but they just didn't want the commitment to Vacation there every year

We (first my parents and I and now, my wife and I) have thought about buying into DVC for YEARS but just haven't because of the reasons I have previously mentioned. As a family, we own a total of 11 weeks a year plus 1 week every-other-year (in Hawaii). Can you rent DVC points??? My mom rents some of hers which either pays for the maintenance plus gets cash back or tax write if it doesn't rent.
I've never had any points left in a year to rent them out.....one time I did and banked them for the next year....even when I lived in PA we used all our points every year
